Jongmyo, a World Heritage site, houses buildings enshrining the tablets of kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty from the first king, Lee Solgae, who founded the Joseon Dynasty.
The central building, Jeongjeongjeon, houses the tablets of 19 kings and their queens, 49 in all.
The building was repeatedly enlarged as new tablets were placed, resulting in a 101-meter long structure.
The building next to it, Yeongnyeongjeon, enshrines the tablets of the king, queen, and 34 other members of the royal family who were not enshrined in the main hall.
The Gongsindang, located in the front yard of the main hall, houses a total of 166 tiles, 83 of which are those of distinguished vassals.
Lee San and Dong Yi, famous characters in Korean period dramas, are also enshrined here.
The "Korea section" has been open to the public since March 10.
