Tainan Overview

Tainan is a city located on the southwestern coast of Taiwan and was the capital of the island during the Qing Dynasty, 1683-1887.

Today Tainan is known for its centuries-old fortifications and temples.

One of the most famous sites is the Red Cannon Tower, a group of 18th century Chinese buildings.

Built in the mid-1600s on the foundation of the Provintia Citadel, a Dutch vanguard site, the Red Cannon Tower contains gardens, elaborately decorated stone monuments, and temples.

The station is virtually identical to the adjacent Shalun Station of the Taiwan Railway Company.

If you get off at Tainan by Taiwan High Speed Rail, you can travel from the adjacent Shalun Station of the Taiwan Railway to the Tainan Station of the Taiwan Railway.

traditional railroad line (esp. non-Shinkansen)

The North-South Coast Highway and the Shalun Highway are the two main routes, and the North-South Coast Highway is the transportation hub of southern Taiwan.

Only one train completes within the Shalun Line (Shalun → Zhongzhou) on weekdays, and most trains operate directly to Tainan Station (Longitudinal Line).

local bus
