Anping Redoubt

The fort was built by the Dutch over a period of 10 years starting in 1624.

In 1661, it became the residence of Zheng Cheng Cheng, who recaptured the area from the Dutch, and was demolished during the Japanese occupation.

Anping Juya

The ruins, eroded by banyan trees over a long period of time, resemble the ruins of Angkor.

It's also a little creepy and scary.

Anping Old Street

Red Barn Tower

It was built by the Dutch in 1652, but later Zheng Cheng Cheng deposed the Dutch and named it Dongdu Chengtianbu.

It is now designated as a first-class historic site in Taiwan, with a beautiful garden, main hall, and temple.

Empress Dowager's palace

The Tainan Grand Queen Mother Temple was originally built in 1664 as the residence of Ming Dynasty royalty, the King of Ningjing, Zhu Wushu Gui, but in 1684 it was rebuilt as the Matsu Temple and renamed the Grand Queen Mother Temple.

In 1818, a fire destroyed the building and cultural relics, but it was rebuilt in 1830, and is in its present form.

The Datianhou Temple is actually more famous as Taiwan's oldest Mazu Temple, which enshrines Mazu (Heavenly Virgin), the guardian goddess of the sea and all-powerful goddess, and attracts many visitors.
