Taipei Overview

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a metropolis with lanes that were built during the Japanese colonial period, bustling shopping districts, and modern buildings.

Taipei 101, a 509-meter-high skyscraper shaped like a bamboo, houses high-end stores, and a high-speed elevator takes visitors up to the observation deck, which is almost at the top of the building.

Taipei is also known for its lively street food scene and many night markets, such as the large Shilin Night Market.

Direct flights from Japan are operated by JAL, ANA, China Airlines, EVA Air, Tiger Air Taiwan, Peach Aviation, etc. (3h30min flight).

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is about 40 km from the city center.

Taipei Songshan Airport is located in the Songshan District of Taipei City, close to the city center and accessible by MRT or local buses.

Taoyuan International Airport(Major international flights arrive and depart.)⇔ City Access:

  1. MRT Taoyuan Airport Line
Locally, the line is referred to as the "Taoyuan Jieyun Airport MRT Line" or "Taoyuan Airport MRT".
Compared to buses, there is no need to worry about traffic congestion, and most buses operate on time.
Also, you don't have to wait in long lines to get on the bus.
The buses do not operate early in the morning or late at night (except from 6:00 to 23:35), so those traveling early in the morning or late at night should take the following "airport bus" or a cab.
Taipei Station and Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 are connected by rapid (direct) train in 35 minutes and by regular train in 45 minutes. Terminal 2 is an additional 2 minutes.
  2. Airport Connection BusCurrently, there are five limousine bus companies that run from Taoyuan International Airport to Taipei City: Kuokuang Bus Company, Chang-Yung Bus Company, Dayu Bus Company, Jian-Ming Bus Company, and Ge-Maran Bus Company. (Hakun and 巴士 mean "bus.")
Less travel and easy. It takes about 55 minutes to Taipei Station.Various routesThere is a
If you want to get to Taipei quickly or if it is your first time and you are not sure, take the Guoguang Bus.
Guoguang Bus (bus) runs directly to Taipei Main Station.
Other buses take an extra 15 to 30 minutes to make their rounds in Taipei City. The trip takes about 1 hour.
  3. cab
Since it does not stop anywhere but goes straight, the time required is slightly faster than that of a bus.
The fare is about NT$1,200. There is a slight variation depending on the destination in Taipei, but not much different from other cabs.
In principle, these prices are approximate, since boarding at Taoyuan Airport is by permit only.
  4. Travel agency shuttles & hotel shuttles
For those who come with package tours from various travel agencies, a local meeting place is often set up just outside the arrival lobby after passing through customs, where local tour guides are holding placards and talking to visitors.

cab
Cab is ji chong chia (計程車) in Chinese.
Cabs in Taiwan are yellow, so they stand out from a distance, and if you show them a note of where you are going, they will get you to your destination.
Fees are also more reasonable than in Japan, so we would definitely like to take advantage of this.
Take the MRT to the nearest station and then take a cab.
Fees are lower than in Japan, so they can be used easily.

6~23:00 ...... NT$70 (approx. ¥248) for the first 1.25 km, then NT$5 (approx. ¥17) for every 250 m or every minute and 40 seconds after that at a speed of 5 km/h or less.

23~6pm...... daytime rate plus NT$20 (approx. ¥71) surcharge.

If you call a cab by phone, NT$10 will be added.

If luggage is loaded in the rear trunk, an additional NT$10 will be charged, but many drivers do not charge for the rear trunk.

Many drivers do not speak English or Japanese, so they write the address of the destination in kanji on a memo and hand it to you (if you write it in English, it will not be understood).

If you tell them only the name of the store, such as "Shinko Mitsukoshi," you may end up at a different branch than your destination, so be sure to tell them the address.

It is better to show the address than to show a map.

The doors of Taiwanese cabs open and close manually, so passengers open and close them by hand.

When you start running, check to see if the meter is working.

Major cab companies in Taipei, such as "Taiwan Grand Carte" and "Da Ai Kei Cheng Cars," are reliable.

Try to avoid anything that says "TAXI" or "personal" in black letters on the roof lamp portion.

Five Principles of Taxi Use

  1. Have change ready.
  2. Prepare a piece of paper with your destination (address) written on it.
  3. Doors open and close by themselves.
  4. Seat belts must be worn (all seats are required to wear seat belts and are subject to fines).
  5. I avoid cabs that are touting.

long-haul bus

Currently, there are three long-distance bus terminals departing from Taipei: Taipei Bus Terminal, Kuokuang Bus East Station, and Kuokuang Bus West Station.

Each of the three terminals are clustered in the same area and are a short walk from the west exit of Taipei Station.

1.[Taipei Bus Terminal (台北轉運站)] [Map]

Taipei Bus Terminal (台北轉運站) is a long-distance bus terminal in Taipei, located north of the Taipei Railway Station.

From the Taipei Bus Terminal, long-distance buses depart for Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung (and other destinations).

2.[Guoguang Bus East Station] [Map]

This is the bus stop for limousine buses bound for Taoyuan International Airport and buses bound for Keelung.

The bus to the airport costs NT$150 per adult, and departs every 15 minutes.

It takes about 40 minutes to the airport. However, the road can be congested during the evening rush hour.

At international airports, the bus first stops at Terminal 1, then at Terminal 2.

When you board the bus, tell the driver which terminal you are using.

3. 【Guoguang Bus West Station】 [Map]

Long-distance routes to/from Taichung, Puli (Sun Moon Lake), Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and other central and southern destinations.

Kokkang Bus Company was formerly a state-run bus company, but is now a privately owned company.

Another feature of Kunimitsu is partially reserved seating. You can buy a ticket without a reservation and wait for an opening.

We hear that buses are less likely to be delayed during consecutive holidays than the popular Ubus (Tonglian) and other buses.
