Delhi Overview
Built in the 1600s, Old Delhi includes India's iconic Mughal-era Red Fortress and the Jama Masjid, a vast mosque that seats 25,000 people in its courtyard.
Nearby is the lively market Chandni Chok, with food stalls and stores selling confectionery, spices, and other items.

airportIndira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)
Direct flights from Japan are operated by JAL, ANA, Air India, etc. (9h30min flight).
Indira Gandhi International Airport, located in the southwestern part of the city, is the gateway to the main city for both domestic and international flights, and is one of the busiest airports in South Asia in terms of passengers.
Although the city is not that far from Delhi International Airport (15 km), access to the city can be difficult, as roads can be congested throughout the day and one can run into unexpected problems, making access to the city a challenge that one cannot imagine in Japan.
The airport has three terminals, but international and major domestic flights are concentrated in Terminal 3, so visitors from Japan will also arrive at Terminal 3 and head into the city from there.
- subway
The Airport Metro (also known as the Orange Line) connects the airport and the city to the New Delhi station, which is the last stop. The entrance to the metro station is located in the building across the street from the Terminal 3 building.
1. time required: 20 minutes
2. hours of operation: every 10 to 30 minutes between 4:45 and 23:15
Fare: Airport - New Delhi Station 60 Rupees (INR) At the New Delhi Station, the last stop, you can transfer to another metro line called the Yellow Line. However, you will need to exit the gate at the New Delhi Airport Metro station, buy a ticket, and re-enter the station. The subway cars are crowded, so it is best to avoid this if you have large luggage. Also, after arriving at the station, you will need to change to a cab or auto-rickshaw to get to your destination, which can be difficult for those who are not familiar with Delhi, such as negotiating the fare, as described below. - airport bus
It connects the airport to the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) via Connaught Place in the city center. Most travelers get off at Connaught Place. The bus stop is located by pillar #18 outside the Terminal 3 building. Public buses are operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
1. travel time: approximately 50 minutes to Connaught Place and approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to the final destination, ISBT (varies greatly depending on road conditions)
2. hours of operation: approximately every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day
Buses are very crowded with local people. The roads leading into the city from the airport are also congested during rush hours, and the time required varies greatly depending on road conditions. Also, after getting off at Connaught Place, you may need to transfer to an auto-rickshaw or other means of transportation, which may require some unfamiliarity, such as negotiating the fare. Unfortunately, there have also been reports of drivers dropping off passengers on the way to their destinations and taking them to waiting auto-rickshaws that charge exorbitant fees, so please be careful when using these services. - Prepaid cab, metered cab
Prepaid cabs are those in which passengers tell the counter in the arrival lobby their destination, pay the fare in advance, and take the ticket with them to the designated cab. However, many troubles have been reported and it is not recommended. On the other hand, several metered cabs also serve Terminal 3 (Meru Cab, Mega Cab, etc.). Cabs entering the airport are equipped with meters and air conditioning.
Time required: approx. 40 minutes, but varies greatly depending on time of day, etc.
2. Approximate charge: around 320-400 INR (with surcharge for late night)As with buses, please note that the time required varies greatly depending on road conditions. - Travel agency shuttles & hotel shuttles
For those who are unfamiliar with Delhi, we recommend the pick-up service provided by hotels and travel agencies. A guide will pick you up at the arrival lobby, and as described below, you do not have to worry about getting into trouble such as being taken to a different place than your destination or being charged further fees. In some cases, English-speaking guides are available, while in other cases, Japanese-speaking guides are available.

Delhi City Transportation
subway
There are nine lines with a total length of approximately 348.77 km and 252 stations, making it one of the largest in the world.
Although it is called a subway, there are many viaducts and ground-level sections, and few purely underground stations.

Delhi Metro
local bus
Although they may be used less frequently than subways or cabs, they are a convenient means of transportation once you become accustomed to them, as they allow you to travel short distances for a relatively low fare.
The cars come in two colors, red and green, with the red one being slightly more expensive but air-conditioned.
How to take a bus (city bus) in Delhi

Delhi bus
cab
In Delhi, cabs painted in yellow and black are on the streets, and waiting cabs are parked in front of major train stations, hotels, and shopping malls.
Compared to the Metro, it is reassuring for nighttime travel, as it is smaller and offers door-to-door service to destinations.
Basically, meters are used, but be aware that some drivers do not want to turn the meter, or many drivers claim that the meter is broken.
Never take a cab that looks suspicious.
In addition, you may be charged a surcharge when you get off the bus, so be firm and negotiate.
Recently, safe car-dispatch apps with established fee structures, such as "Ola," are rapidly gaining market share, and their use is also recommended.
The system is INR25 for the first ride and Rs14 for each kilometer driven thereafter.
A 25% surcharge applies from 23:00 to 5:00 the next day.
However, this is only a guideline, and in reality, they often ask for a relatively higher price than the regular fee.
Although tipping is not a cultural practice, it is a good idea to give about Rs100-Rs150 when you ask for a pick-up or drop-off.
