Merlion Park
Map around City Hall
Overview of the City Hall area
The area north of the mouth of the Singapore River is a key area that tells the story of Singapore's history.
When you come here, you see a scene that is foreign to Asia.
The National Gallery Singapore, with its Corinthian colonnaded buildings and stately neoclassical buildings with round domes against the blue sky, and the neo-Gothic St. Andrews Cathedral with its beautiful stained-glass windows.
Cricket and rugby are played on a ground called padang.
The area around City Hall is the area in Singapore, or even in Asia, that retains the strongest European flavor.
In one corner of this area is where Raffles marked its first steps.
It is at this time that Singapore first appears in history, and in this sense, it is said to be the "birthplace of modern Singapore.
There are three areas of concentrated interest.
A section of the riverside: (1) Raffles Landing Memorial (2) Empress Place, Museum of Asian Civilizations (3) Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall (4) National Gallery Singapore (5) Merlion Park
Around City Hall Station: (1) Raffles Hotel (2) Raffles City (3) St. Andrews Cathedral
