Baan Mai Market Overview

An old market located along the Baan Pakong River in Chachoengsao Province, east of Bangkok.

Baan Mai means "new house" and was named after the house that was destroyed by fire and rebuilt about 100 years ago during the reign of King Rama V.

Today, the market is known as "Hyakunen Ichiba" (100 Year Old Market), keeping its name.

Stores selling traditional sweets and sundries line both sides of the narrow aisle, making it look like a busy fair.

Dining at the restaurant facing the river is also enjoyable.

Hours: Most stores are open only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
