Kret Island Overview
Kret Island, located in the northern suburbs of Bangkok, is an artificial island created by the excavation of a canal on the Chao Phraya River.
The area is inhabited by descendants of the Hmong people who migrated from Ayutthaya to Bangkok when the capital was relocated there.
On the northeastern tip of the island, a white chedi built in the Mon style faces the Chao Phraya River in the precincts of a temple, and has become a symbol of Koh Kret.
It is a popular holiday destination for Bangkokians, with its production of unglazed pottery and traditional sweets.
Access(1) Bus: Take bus No. 32 from the Royal Palace area or No. 505 from Pratunam to Parklet, then take a ferry from behind Wat Sanamnua, a temple near the end of the route. Buses are infrequent and take a long time.
(2) Taxi - from Bangkok city (takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, about 220B).
(3) Every Sunday, there is a cruise tour to Kret Island departing from 10:00 a.m. from the Sathorn pier of the Chao Phraya Express Boat. English-speaking guides are available. Advance booking is required due to its popularity.
Visit Klet Island on weekends - Most stores are closed on weekdays as it is a holiday resort. If you want to go, go on Saturdays and Sundays.
