Map of Sukhumvit Road area

Sukhumvit Road Area Overview

Phra Ram Nung (King Rama I) Street changes its name to Ploenchit Street as it continues east, and then to Sukhumvit Street as it passes under the overpass of the toll road and over the freight rail tracks.

The alleyways (sois) that branch off from the street and go into the back are numbered from west to west, with odd numbers on the north side and even numbers on the south side.

There are many hotels, restaurants, and stores around Sukhumvit Road, which is always crowded with foreign tourists.

The street has specific areas of concentration of foreigners: Soi 3 area is known as an Arab neighborhood, Soi 11 area as an Indian neighborhood, the entrance to Soi 12 as a Korean neighborhood, Soi 33/1 as a town of Japanese expatriate housewives, and the Soi 39 area as a Japanese bedroom community, which is unique in the eyes of travelers.

The stalls, which used to be a specialty of the night, are now regulated to operate on the sidewalks, and they operate on private property just barely using walls and store shutters.
