Hue Royal Palace
Hue Overview
Hue is a city in central Vietnam. Once the royal capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, it was the capital of Vietnam from 1802-1945.
The city is famous for its 19th century fortress surrounded by a moat and thick stone walls.
The Forbidden City, where the emperor lived, and the reconstructed theater, called the "Review Hall," are the most representative examples.
The Nguyen Dynasty Royal Palace and the imperial mausoleums of the emperors were registered as a World Heritage Site in 1993 as the "Monuments of Hue". (The information below is current as of August 2020.)

Transportation in Hue
cab
There are many cabs in Hue, and if you wait on the main street, you can catch a cab.
Also, hotels and restaurants will call a cab for you if you ask the staff to do so.
One difference from Japan is that the doors are not automatic; you have to open and close them yourself.
When telling people where to go, it is more reliable to indicate the address than to show them a map.
Cab meters start at 10,000-13,500 VND and thereafter add about 15,000 VND per kilometer.
A 5-km ride costs about 70,000VND.

4. How to take a cab
- Ask your hotel or restaurant to call for you. Use only the three companies listed above for cabs on the street.
- Check the company name & phone number on the vehicle before getting in. Do not get in a white taxi that has nothing written on it or has a fake sticker on it.
- Check that the meter is working properly and that the driver's employee ID is next to the meter.
- When you arrive at your destination, pay the amount as per the meter. Tipping is not required.
cyclo (Southeast Asian pedicab)
A bicycle cab with a seat in front of the bicycle is called a cyclo.
Prices are slightly higher than those of motorcycle cabs, but they move at a slower, more leisurely pace and can be enjoyed as sightseeing.
Cyclo rides around the old town, where the Royal Palace is located, are tasteful and recommended. Cyclo rides are plentiful in the city.
After speaking to the driver, ask for the destination and negotiate the fare. It is better to indicate the destination with the address to avoid misunderstandings.
It is also advisable to have low denomination bills such as 50,000 VND ready before boarding the bus, as the driver may not have change for high denomination bills.
Cyclos near the exit of the Royal Palace can be used even if you do not have a specific destination in mind, as the driver will suggest a sightseeing route that will take you through the old city.
Some travel agencies in Hue also offer cyclo-tours.
The standard rate is 70,000-100,000 VND per hour. Please confirm rates, hours, and destinations before using the service.

rent-a-cycle
Tourists who wish to see Hue's cityscape and visit tourist attractions are recommended to use the bicycles.
However, since traffic conditions are different from those in Japan, be sure to drive safely when using this service.
Also, remember to stay hydrated during the dry season because of the high temperatures.
Vietnam is a right-of-way country. Bicycles should be ridden on the right side of the roadway.
In Vietnam, it is common for vehicles to turn right even on a red light, and for vehicles that have just turned right or left to run several meters the other way on the roadway.
The price of a daily rental bicycle in Hue is 50.000VND/day.
Some hotels rent them out for 20.000VND/day for their guests.

Hue Climate
Hue is a tropical monsoon climate zone with a dry season (February to September) and a rainy season (October to January).
During the dry season, temperatures and humidity are high, with the hottest months from June to August reaching a maximum of 34°C (34°F), and the temperature can rise to 40°C (104°F) on some days.
Heat protection such as sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are necessary due to the strong sunlight. A folding umbrella can be used as a parasol.
The rainy season is from October to December, when the monsoon has a great influence, and there is heavy rainfall.
Rain during this time of year is often not a squall but a full day, and sometimes it does not stop raining for a week.
In addition to an umbrella or kappa, waterproof shoes or sandals are a good idea.
Temperatures drop from November to February, with lows sometimes reaching 10°C (50°F).
It can feel cold when it rains, so if you are traveling, you should prepare a light down jacket.
The tourist season is from February to April and September, when the temperature is relatively cool and there is little rain. (However, watch out for typhoons in September.)
If you want to enjoy the beach, the best season is from May to August when there are many sunny days.
